Happy Tails!

Hazel

My name is Hazel Bigi (formerly Ninha). I have been living the good life in Dallas, Texas ever since I was officially adopted February 2, 2007. My new home consists of 2 people and my “sister”, Dinah (a Siberian Husky rescued from the Richardson Animal Shelter several years ago). My sister is 5 and I am 2, so we play together and watch out for each other, too. A lot of people think we look like twins! My people let us sleep anywhere we want to, the bed, the carpet or on the tile floor. We get 3 snacks a day, a daily walk or two and plenty of attention. My people are what they call “dog crazy”, they have no human kids, just us! They fuss over us like mad, which we love. I wag my tail and “talk” to my new family a lot. It is a really plush, easy life I am leading here and I want to thank my foster people, LJ and Joe for giving me a chance to get adopted. I have found a family where I “fit in” and I belong! I know I have more wonderful days ahead of me. From Laura and Brooks: We absolutely love Miss Hazel. She has really settled into her forever home. She no longer raids the trash bin or steals her sister's food. She knows she is here to stay and is so happy and content!

Aspen

My husband and I adopted Bob from "Adopt a Husky of Dallas, Inc.", just over 3 weeks ago. We have renamed him Aspen since he seems to answer to it better than Bob. We have thoroughly enjoyed having him in our family. Aspen and our Cocker Spaniel, Toby buddied up fairly quickly and play with each other all the time. Some times they run up and down the hall and around the kitchen bar and occasionally I can be caught running with them. :-) There is a doggie park one block from our house that we take them to and let them run and mingle with other dogs. Aspen just loves it!! He chases me around the park and loves to talk. I recently gave him his first bath in the backyard. I held the water hose for him and he would drink from it and run through the stream of water. I have never seen a dog like the water as much as Aspen. It was a pleasure working with Aspen's Foster Mom. Her and her family did a great job taking care of him until he was found a home. I appreciate all the hard work this organization does and hope that many more huskies are rescued from you.

Hunter

Hunter is the latest addition as we found him on the Adoptahusky.org website last week. AKA “Hunter-bun” and “bud”…. So far. I am Hunter bun and I love everything and everybody. Kyra my new sister is a little on the wild side but really cute and loves me very much. She did not seem to at first but now I have a shadow. Taz is a grumpy dog who lays around and does not really get involved in my playtime with Kyra – he seems to hurt so I leave him alone. My new parents love me very much and have been feeding me the gourmet dog food (Bil-jac) that I barely taste it because I eat really fast – but Kyra tells me it is really good and she taunts me sometimes and waits until I am finished to eat. I have a great new cave (Crate) that has a huge pillow in it and toys – that are only my toys…. I really like balls – especially the small blue one. My new pack usually sleeps together most of the night on the big bed – I like being in the middle and have to touch everyone. They even let me lay my head on one of their pillows….really cool. Taz usually jumps down after a few cubes of ice. Kyra lays on the pillows at the top of the bed but usually leaves during the night and goes under the bed. I like to stay there all night – although I am a little clumsy my new family does not seem to mind if I step on them, lay on them, or paw them during the night. I really like pigs ears – and can almost swallow them – but I am learning that I should chew more… I made a mistake and marked one of the walls in the corner, my mom corrected me by pointing my nose at it and getting me to finish outside. I think they really like it when a “wooo-woooo” and mom called me “Barry white” and dad laughed – not sure what that means but I keep doing it and now Kyra joins me. I wanted to say thank you so much to my foster family who took rrrreeeaaallllyyy good care of me and loved me so much for the short time I was there…I miss endo and charma – so please give them hugs for me. But don’t worry about me – I really like my new home – but pppplllleeeaaassseee come and visit.

Sincerely,
Jen and family

Stoli

Hi Friends at Adopt a Husky, I wanted to let you know that one of things we are thankful for on this Thanksgiving is our sweet boy Stoli (who used to be Snow in your system). We’ve had him several months now and just love him to pieces. We have 5 dogs total now and while it’s crazy in our home, I love every minute of it. Stoli is especially loving and will some day be a 90 pound lap dog. He’s gained some weight and is starting to fill out just a bit but is still a lean boy. Stoli’s best friend is a 30 pound little mutt named Ginger that we were fostering for FMHS and became foster failures. That little dog puts Stoli in his place and he loves it. They play and follow each other around all the time. But, Stoli (left) also gets some husky loving from his other best friend Bruiser (right). He’s our 3 year old Husky that I rescued from an animal hospital before he was put down. As you can see in the photo’s, they are quite the love husky’s. But boy do they love to run and in the back yard a lot too – and dig if Mom’s not looking ;-). So, we have lots to be thankful for this Thanksgiving and I just wanted to let you know that Stoli is doing just great! We love him so much and he’s fit right into our crazy pack of dogs!

I wish you all a happy holidays and a year of lots of adoptions!

Update on Stoli aka Snow 06/01/2007

Stoli’s grown a lot this past year and has finally started to fill out a little. He’s still lean, but not as gangly as he was. Stoli has a LOT of personality and just loves everyone. He’s VERY noisy and loves to talk to you first thing in the morning and just about any other time you’ll listen to him. We say he’s like a naughty little boy – he’s very handsome and sweet and then he does something devilish and naughty. You just can’t help but love it though! For all his adolescent energy, he’s got more love and kisses than any of our other dogs combined. He’ loves to get right in your face and sniff sniff sniff and then give you a giant wet kiss. He thinks that’s fun. And he LOVES to give hugs. Big giant hugs that would knock you over if you didn’t see it coming. We continue to work on that all the time, but he’s pretty adamant that he MUST give you a hug when he sees you. He has fit in well over the past year and is such a great addition to our crazy family of animals. We stopped fostering with FMHS after we adopted Stoli because we ended up keeping our last foster dog. He and Ginger (the foster) are absolutely the best of friends. Funny thing though, he’s the biggest and she’s the smallest of the dogs. They play nonstop and are inseparable most of the time. Attached is a photo of Stoli and Ginger taking a rare breather from a long day of playing. They love each other!

Sincerely,
Courtney, Stoli, Bruiser, Ginger, Piper & Gracie

Timber

I was online and saw your Happy Tails section and wanted to share pictures of Timber. We adopted him from your organization a little over a year ago and he’s doing great. He is a blessing to our family. When we adopted him, he had been treated for heart worms and had gone through the treatment right after we brought him home. He’s in excellent health, although he does get tired easily. He gets along great with our two cats and loves it when our son & his fiancé bring their Beagle & Pomeranian to visit. Timber & his “AFLAC” duck. He carried that thing around the house like it was his baby for months. We recently got a calico kitten and he took to her and they LOVE to play. Over the summer… he spent most of the day in the house in the cool air conditioning, but now that it has cooled off… he is constantly wanting to go out and play. Thank you very much for the opportunity to have adopted Timber. We love him and have referred several people to AHDI.

Thanks again!! The Keyworths

Geni

We wanted to let you know about one of the dogs we adopted from AHDI. We had had a matched pair of huskies for 16 years, a male and female. When the female died of old age the male was heartbroken and soon followed her. We were heartbroken too. Their loyalty, beauty, and intelligence had totally spoiled us to the breed. We spent 3 years not being able to reconcile ourselves to another dog. No other breed was as smart, as pretty, as independent, etc. Then we saw Ice now aka Geni (I believe she currently shows as ADOPTED on your website. That ADOPTED is us.) Our prior pair were black and whites--but we took one look at Ice in person and knew we wanted to at least try again. We fostered her for a week--and realized that, doggone it, we were just husky people and couldn't escape it. She didn't really respond to the name Ice so we officially changed her name to Geni (pronounced Genie--like Genie in a bottle). THAT she did respond to. She is a sweetie. For a young husky she is very good on a leash, both running and walking. She wants to play with our cat (although the cat isn't sure about it yet.) She wants to always be close to us. When one of us is out of the room she will get up, track us down, make sure we're okay, then go back to her cool spot in the kitchen by the air conditioning vent. She LOVES to lick and LOVES to have her belly rubbed. Now that she knows she has a home her fur is starting to thicken and her body is starting to fill out. As you can see from the pictures her ears are very upright now (like a true husky). We've had her about a month and she's picked up on our routines and when she gets fed and where the treats are and where she can sleep (and where she shouldn't). She doesn't talk much at all and is doing very well with other dogs both in the neighborhood and the dog park. It's good to have a husky again. We needed that personality back.

Thank you for bringing Ice/Geni into our lives.
